
Yarianis R.
Yarianis Rivera Maisonet is a junior at Boston University, majoring in Biomedical Engineering on a Pre-Health track. She is a Social Media and Administrative Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being, where she supports research initiatives and outreach efforts focused on improving early childhood development. Passionate about healthcare, engineering, and community impact, Yarianis also serves as President of BU MedLife, Vice President of University Affairs for BU SHPE, and Sub-Regional Student Representative for SHPE Region 4. Her interests include research, mentorship, and advocating for underrepresented communities.
She worked as a Software Development Engineer Intern at Amazon. Since 2023, participated of different conferences as SHPE National Convention, Harvard Latina Empowerment and Development (LEAD), and GMIS Conference where won first place in the STEMZone competition as team DEVCOM.
She studied in Nueva Brígida Álvarez Rodríguez Specialized in Sciences and Mathematics high school in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Robotics and Girl Scout are extracurricular activities that have influenced her to pursue a STEM career. She has been participating in VEX Robotics Competition since 2018, achieved the 2020 VEX Design and Excellence Awards, and the VEX Robotics World Championship Award.
She has gained experience from participating and working in a variety of STEM activities: Lego Mindstorms, Microsoft Girl STEAM Challenge, VEX code, Python, 3D prints, citizen scientist, and science fairs. Some STEM programs she enjoyed most are: NASA SEES Internship (2020), Codepillars Club, Globe Observer Program, Computer Science for Girls, and Pre-Engineering Camps.
She is a Seed of Triumph STEM Girl Ambassador and mentor, NAE EngineerGirl Ambassador, SWENext local Innovator recipient, Hispanic Heritage Technology awardee, As an Engineer Girl 2020 she creates the R-STEAM program to integrate robotics and STEAM workshops for girls. She is one of the four developers of the Covid Run Game an educational videogame about the coronavirus.
She can support younger girls because she has positive attitude, ease of communication, ability to relate to others, confidence, self-motivation, and teamwork.
