
Dr. Theodore N.
Ted Newfield serves as a career tech educator and department supervisor at Armwood High School, where he leads business and computer science programs. He teaches standard, dual-enrollment, and advanced Computer Science, Marketing, and Finance placement courses. He is also the advisor/coach for DECA, Computer Science Honor Society, eSports, and Cyber Security teams. Ted also supports the Armwood AVID program while enveloping CS into their courses. Ted received the 2023 Amazon Future Engineer Teacher of the Year award, the 2020 & 2023 Tampa Bay Computer Science Teacher of the Year, and the 2020 & 2022 Armwood HS Teacher of the Year awards. The Armwood computer science program has also earned the AP Female Diversity Award for 2021 and 2022. In 2024, he received the FCAN award for Innovation, followed by the HCPN award for Innovation surrounding the STEAM lab that was built at Armwood. Ted has had a history of sending alumni to post-secondary trade schools and colleges. Recently, he was an EverFi Champion, enveloping STEAM in the classroom and was recognized by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the EverFi National Teacher campaign. For 2024-25 school year, his students are piloting a Business Automation program with UI Path to bring AI to their Finance Academy Internship program.
Ted has been a resident of the Tampa Bay Area since 2016. Before joining Armwood, he worked in the IT industry for over 20 years in the greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas. Ted has completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, focusing on educational technology and curriculum.
