Cindy M.
Cindy has been a dedicated educator at Patchogue-Medford High School since 1999, teaching mathematics and computer science. Over the years, she has taught a variety of programming courses including Beginning Programming (Visual Basic, C++, Logo, Alice, and Robot-C) and Web Design/Java Programming. In 2018, she began teaching Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles using App Inventor. A year later, she took on Advanced Placement Computer Science A and Advanced Data Structures following the retirement of her mentor of 20 years.
Next year, Cindy will once again be teaching the Beginning Programming course—bringing her career full circle as she returns to the class that helped launch her journey in computer science education.
Currently, she is also entrusted with teaching both College Statistics and Advanced Placement Statistics. She integrates her expertise in Excel and spreadsheet tools to enhance student learning and engagement in these courses.
In addition to her teaching duties, Cindy recently developed and implemented a Principles of Cybersecurity curriculum for her district and is actively working to expand the program through the College Board. She also founded the school’s Computer Science and Coding Club, which has rapidly doubled in size since its inception.
A passionate advocate for equity in education, Cindy is leading efforts to redesign her district’s computer science program to ensure it is inclusive and accessible to all students, preparing them for future success in an increasingly digital world.
