Aspirations Canada

AiC Canada, in partnership with with Queens University and University of Toronto and sponsored by Shopify Dev Degree, is proud to offer the Award for Aspirations in Computing to students in all of Canada. 

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) in Canada honours and recognizes grade 9 through 12 students who self-identify as women, genderqueer, or non-binary and allies for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education. Applications will open on September 1, 2025.

Eligibility:

Students in grades 9 through 12 involved in technology are welcome to join the free AiC Community and apply. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements outlined below will be considered for both the Canadian National and Regional Affiliate Awards.

To be considered for an Canadian Aspirations HS Award, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • They are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or a temporary resident attending high school (not participating in an exchange program)
  • They are 13 years of age or older at the time of creating an aspirations.org account.
  • They receive parent/guardian approval by the approval deadline OR are 18 years of age or older at the time of completion of their AiC Community membership form.
  • They are an AiC Community member. 

Prizes - vary by award designation:

  • National Winner: Trophy, Gold medal, certificate and a $500 CAD cash prize. 
  • Local Winners: Gold medal & certificate
  • Honorable Mentions: Silver medal & certificate
  • Rising Stars: Bronze medal & certificate

  • Are Canadian College/University students eligible for the NCWIT Collegiate Award? Not at this time.
  • Are Canadian educators eligible for the NCWIT Educator Award? The Educator Award is not being offered by AiC this year.
  • Are Canadian educators eligible to apply for up to $750 in professional development funds? Not at this time.
