NCWIT Affiliate Assistance Fund 2024-2025
The Affiliate Assistance Fund is for affiliates who need financial assistance to operate the Aspirations in Computing program. Affiliates should strive to develop sponsorship and support from the local community.
The goals of the fund are to provide financial support to assist Affiliates in the following areas:
- OUTREACH:
- Increase the number of schools reached
- Increase underrepresented (BIPOC) applications overall
- RECOGNITION:
- Provide recognition to local awardees (we anticipate most if not all will be in person)
- Support delivery of trophies and medals
How much funding is available?
Each award is up to $2,000 with a limited number of awards available at the maximum amount. Award allocations will be determined from estimated awardee numbers, demonstrated financial need (determined by review of a submitted detailed budget), as well as affiliate status (for new affiliate or newly organized affiliates). Funding is awarded at NCWIT’s sole discretion, subject to availability. Please apply only for the funds you need. Final award amounts shall be determined based on the number of affiliates that apply. Please note, this funding is not intended to be an affiliate's only source of financial support for their region. We strongly encourage building local partnerships and sponsorships.
How can the Affiliate Assistance Fund awards be used?
Funds may be used to cover all aspects of Affiliate outreach, application promotion, and events with the exception of alcohol or recipient prizes. Indirect costs/ F&A not allowed.
This year, applications will be scored in two ways:
1) Applicants will receive an auto score amount based on:
- Number of awardees last year
- Number of applications submitted last year
- Growth of awardees between last year and the year before
FUND AMOUNT BASELINE DETERMINATION:
Affiliate Applicants will be given a baseline award amount by calculating their ESTIMATED AWARDEES for the upcoming year (# of awardees last year + potential growth = # of awardees last year minus # of awardees two years ago. NOTE: if there was no growth, we will just use the # of awardees from last year).
This ESTIMATED AWARDEE amount will be multiplied by $75 per awardee for in person events OR $25 per awardee for virtual events to determine your FUND AMOUNT BASELINE. If your BASELINE is MORE than the amount you requested, we will look at your submitted detailed budget to ensure that it reflects the amount you requested (not to surpass $2,000) to determine your final award. If your BASELINE is LESS than the amount requested, we will look at your submitted detailed budget to determine what can be added to your FUND AMOUNT.
- Affiliates will need to submit budgets with as much detail as possible in the following categories: (1) Outreach & (2) Estimated Event costs - REQUIRED
- Affiliates will also need to provide additional funding sources and amounts - REQUIRED
- Status as a newly formed Affiliate, newly changed Affiliate (new coordinator or other changes) - OPTIONAL
- Affiliates will need to submit a plan of action for obtaining outside sponsorship (can be a drafted letter and a list of potential sponsors) - REQUIRED BUT NOT SCORED
ADDITIONAL FUND MAY BE AWARDED:
- If funds needed for alternative outreach plans (especially in areas educators are not willing to assist with outreach due to the political climate and DEI restrictions)
- If funds needed for special circumstances (e.g. the need to provide transportation to certain awardees)
- If funds needed for Additional Programming offered to AiC Awardees outside of the event (e.g. meetups, workshops, mentorships, job shadowing).
