Bridget P.

Bridget is a sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska studying computer science at the Raikes School of Computer Science and Management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is a creative problem solver who loves to use technical and interpersonal strategies to solve significant problems. Last summer, she worked as a STEP Intern at Google on the Sign-In team where she contributed to systems used by billions of users a day by designing, implementing, and releasing a project at scale. Her project added page refresh ability to pages in the Google Account sign-in flow in order to prevent users from being kicked to the start of the sign-in process after a page refresh. She is fascinated by the design process at scale and the importance of inclusive design. On-campus, she is an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Nebraska Lincoln’s Smart Materials and Robotics Laboratory, an interdisciplinary research lab that uses soft multifunctional materials to make advancements in wearable computing. She has worked as a programmer on the lab’s Smart Bandage project developing an Android mobile app. The lab’s Smart Bandage is a flexible electronic sensor that collects health metrics from patients without inhibiting daily life. The data collected by this device will be used to diagnose COPD and potentially COVID-19 more quickly. Whether it be working on global systems or cutting-edge research, she draws her inspiration from the “why” behind software design and how technology can be put to work to create a better world.
