Abigail G.

Abigail is passionate about computer science and engineering. At her school, she is the head of the Competitive Programming Club and is the senior advisor of the Society of Women in STEM. She is also working to start a Girls Who Code chapter at her school as she works to develop STEM classes for local elementary and middle school students. She also has been doing competitive robotics since 7th grade and is a three-year member of her school’s FTC robotics team, the Hotchkiss Gearcats. This past summer, Abigail did research and used her programming skills to develop a program to predict the pulse-wave velocity of patients with cardiovascular disease and also used programming to generate an IL-2 receptor protein as a starting point for cancer treatment. Continuing into this year, Abigail has been applying her love of the outdoors to collecting bird recordings, which she is using to analyze bird song and bird communication. Abigail also loves music and built her own electric guitar, which she is currently learning to play. She is also developing a myoelectric arm that combines her love of programming, engineering, and medicine. In college, she plans to study mechanical engineering with a focus on medical technologies. She hopes to continue her research in the field of cardiovascular disease and animal communications in the future.
