Yarency, 15 from Oakland, California, is currently a sophomore at Lionel Wilson College Preparatory Academy. She aspires to work in the field of technology and has been interested ever since she joined AimHigh, a summer program in 2013, and was introduced to the basics of programming using Scratch, an online programming community. Yarency practiced online coding through Code Academy and is now a part of the Google CodeNext program in her city. Yarency recently attended the Summer Science and Math Honors Academy (SMASH for short) at Stanford University, where she learned more about computer science and the importance of it in the tech field. She hopes to major in computer science and work at a tech company like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and or Apple. Yarency started a Community Service Club at her school and she plans on bringing a Girls Who Code program and a Robotics club to her school to inspire young girls her age to find a pathway in technology.
