After graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI), I began working at Highland Park High School as an aide in a mathematics resource center while I worked on my resume and decided where I wanted to pursue my engineering career. After only one day working with students, I knew I had to become an educator. I worked full time in the resource center and at night attended graduate school to achieve my Masters in the Art of Teaching degree. 17 years later (at the same school) I am so thankful I made that decision. I taught solely mathematics for about 10 years, until I started the computer science program at our school. What started with one AP Computer Science A course has developed into 4 course offerings with over 150 students taking CS each year. I have been fortunate to encourage young women over the past several years to follow their passion in CS and many have chosen CS as their careers.
