Suzanne Speirs teaches business and computer science courses at Downingtown High School West. She is the advisor for the Mock Trial Team and the Computer Science Honor Society. She participated in the REThink CS @ Drexel, a Research Experiences for Teachers program at Drexel University in Philadelphia, for three years, and was a peer-mentor for the program for two subsequent years. She wrote a computer science module on visualization to increase student understanding and retention of Java sorting algorithms and has co-developed a cross-curricular module on microprocessors in education. She has volunteered for many events to inspire new students to pursue computer science, running hands-on Arduino workshops. She has presented the Arduino workshop at the CSTA annual conference to an audience of over 65 CS educators. She recently completed her doctorate at Temple University. Her research area of interest is in broadening access, motivation, and participation in computer science. She has served as Treasurer and President of CSTA Philly.
