Bio

Shreya is a senior at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the Founder of Foundation For Girls (FFG), a youth-led social venture to change the life-trajectory of vulnerable girls through a network of “caring coaches” and programs in Digital Literacy, Financial Wellness, Leadership, and Health & Well-Being. Shreya partners with local community organizations, students, and professionals to coach girls in shelters, crisis centers, and afterschool programs. Working with trafficking survivors, teen moms, homeless, and refugees, she gives them hope, aspiration, and scaffolding so that they can take charge of their futures. Shreya and FFG provide them with access to coaches and tools they need to realize their full potential, find their passions, and become strong, confident, and self-reliant women. By the end of January of 2019, FFG has reached 1,801 girls and youth since inception while conducting over 350 workshops and investing over 16,000 hours in changing the life-trajectory of girls in crisis. Shreya leads FFG’s Digital Literacy program as it aligns with her interest in computer science and technology. This program focuses on critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration through hands-on-programming and fundamentals of technology. The gamified approach keeps children who have had traumatic backgrounds engaged and motivated. It enables them to develop active listening and collaboration skills. Recently, she introduced interactive educational robots to teach programming through visual and voice commands. She empowers vulnerable girls by teaching them the digital skills they need to be successful as a global citizen. Shreya is also the youngest member and Secretary of the USA Volleyball Diversity & Inclusion Committee. As Shreya heads off to college, she plans to pursue computer science and business. With support from FFG’s volunteers, board members, advisory board, school, corporate sponsors and foundations, Shreya was able to grow the organization for the past five years. Shreya has received numerous awards for community leadership and impact: *L'Oreal Paris Women of Worth Award 2018 (youngest and only high school student) *Outstanding Student Philanthropist Award 2018 *Yale Bassett Award Semi-Finalist *The Diana Award 2018 *Round Square International Kurt Hahn Award Commendation 2018 *UNC Charlotte - The Women + Girls Research Alliance (W+GRA) "Girls Who Make a Difference" Award *Daily Points of Light Award #6202 *Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award 2017 and 2018 *Youth Humanitarian Award *ASICS BIG SOUTH Inaugural 'For-The-Win' Award
