Rigel is a sophomore at Las Cruces High School. She joined a local FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics team at the age of nine, winning the innovation award. Rigel remained with the team for the next three years, until she was invited to the high school FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team in seventh grade. This is currently her fourth year as an active member of the team, working on the fabrication, CAD design, and electronics of the year's robot. She has participated in both the YWiC, and CS Adventures summer camps, and alongside her teammates aids FLL teams around town weekly. She hopes to major in Bioinformatics due to its involvement with both STEM, and medical concepts, and is taking several related classes at her high school, including Medical Interventions in its first year offered, and a dual-credit computer science class through The University of New Mexico. As for a shorter term goal, Rigel hopes to be the CAD captain on the FRC Robotics team this upcoming competition season. She is also fluent in Python, NetLogo, MIT AppInventor, and has had significant experience with Java, and HTML coding languages. In her free time, she enjoys creating digital artwork using Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai.
