Bio

Rhea Mathew is currently a senior at Chattahoochee High School where she is the founder and president of CS for Girls. She created this organization in 2017 for her Girl Scouts Gold Award project in order to teach computer science skills to young girls due to the significant lack of women in the computer science field. For CS for Girls, she teaches elementary school and middle school girls the basics of coding by using programs such as Scratch and EarSketch (csforgirls.weebly.com). So far, Rhea has shared her knowledge of computer science with 78 girls in elementary and middle schools, and she hopes to teach more in the future. Because of her project's success, she won the Gold Award scholarship and was honored as Council Young Woman of Distinction for 2019. In addition to teaching coding to young girls, Rhea is also the Secretary of STEMinism, which promotes the STEM field to girls in elementary schools. She previously interned at a software company where she used programming languages like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and SQL throughout the school year and during the summer. Rhea will be attending Georgia Tech this fall as a Computer Science major.
