Rebecca is a high school teacher at Iberville Math, Science and Arts Academy East in St. Gabriel, Louisiana. She is a math teacher by trade, but has recently found an interest in computer science. She teaches Geometry, College Algebra/Trig, AP Calculus, and AP CS Principles. She first discovered her love for programming when she heard about a new AP course that would be designed to attract underrepresented groups -- a course that would be accessible to both experienced and novice computer science students. She immediately inquired about professional development opportunities and began learning how to code. She used her newfound passion to offer AP CSP at her school, the first computer science course her school had offered. She recruited in her small, diverse, rural school and had seven students participate in the course's launch in 2016-2017, which grew to 10 in 2017-2018. She worked with LSU to help them develop a career pathway for students in Computer Science for the state of Louisiana. She has goals to take a group of students to Cyber Discovery Camp during the summer in Ruston, Louisiana and she would also like to start a Girls Who Code club at her community library.
