Rebecca is a senior at the Kettle Moraine High School in Wales, Wisconsin. Rebecca has plans to pursue a degree in applied computer science and has a passion for inspiring girls to choose a career in information technology. Rebecca has been participating in information technology activities from a young age, from focusing on IT courses in high school to speaking at a regional IT conference. She first developed an interest in computer science while in middle school after attending a conference with her family. It was there where she was introduced to computer science through the family sessions at that regional IT conference. Rebecca has always challenged herself to explore a wide range of programming languages including Lua, C#, PHP, Python, Java, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Rebecca has helped at Kettle Moraine High School’s computer help desk updating software and fixing computers. Rebecca has spoken twice at regional IT Conferences. In 2017, she presented a live coding demo during a one-hour hands-on coding lab to teach girls how to use the programming language Lua to control in-game robots called turtles using the ComputerCraft mod for Minecraft. In 2018, she presented a live coding demo during a one-hour hands-on coding lab to teach girls "How to Program your Dragon" by building a webpage using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It was inspiring to see the joy on the young girls faces when they showed off their webpage at the end of the lab. Rebecca has the desire to continue speaking to teach programming and inspire girls to choose a career in the information technology field. Rebecca will be attending college after high school and has been accepted to several universities.
