Rachel is in the graduating class of 2017 at Herbert Henry Dow High School. Computing interested her from a young age; she began exploring the languages of HTML and CSS through online website builders and tutorials in middle school as a hobby. During her sophomore year, she became a licensed Microsoft Office Specialist. As high school progressed, she eagerly took part in advanced computing classes where she became experienced in Visual Basics, C++, and Java coding languages as well as applications such as Photoshop and Sony Vegas. She received a scholarship her junior year to attend the week long Women in Computer Science Summer Youth Program at Michigan Tech University where she learned more about the opportunities of the field as well as worked on an app to assist elderly citizens to more easily use their mobile devices. Apart from being a student of the AP Computer Science course at her school, she is also a violinist in her school's symphony orchestra and an active member of both Key Club and National Honor Society. Rachel will be attending Michigan State University, majoring in computer science.
