Makenna is an intelligent and determined young woman who aspires to utilize her skills and talents to pursue a career in social justice: particularly as it pertains to women’s rights. Her experience in Computer Science demonstrates her fortitude as she has gone from being the only female in her freshman Computer Science class, to being the President of the Code Phoenix Team during her sophomore year, to being the co-leader of a program designed to teach middle school girls about computer science. She hopes to create an environment where more women are accepted and expected in the field of Computer Science. Her greatest accomplishment to date has been developing the “Say Something” app which has been endorsed by the Hartford Police Department in Connecticut. Further, she has become a mentor for the Connecticut Girls Who Code program and a co-leader of the ITGirl program. Makenna’s future plans include going to college and graduate school to pursue studies in the fields of Computer Forensics, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Law.
