Laurel, a senior at Fairfield High School, started a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team for the community, teaches 4-H STEM summer camps, and advocates for technology courses in the district. She recruited girls from multiple counties to participate in the new Girls Who Code club, and she leads technology outreach programs throughout the year to increase STEM awareness for all ages. She will have a Computer Software Development A.A.S. degree with webpage development emphasis before she graduates high school. She has been recognized at the county, college, state, and national levels for her academics and her technology skills. She has also completed a summer programming internship and been a Student Ambassador for the FTC World Championship. She sings, acts, plays clarinet, completes countless service hours, loves her family and siblings, is a friend to everyone, and with time will be fearless. Laurel is undecided on which college she will attend in the fall but plans to major in chemical engineering, explore the world, and eat lots of dark chocolate.
