I began my career as a business teacher 20 years ago. For many years, I taught one introductory computer programming class along with all of my business classes. Three years ago I started teaching only computer science. That year I taught web design and AP Computer Science Principles for the first time and I co-taught AP Computer Science A. It was the year I developed a passion for computer science. My mentor, friend, and an amazing computer science teacher, Mindy Johns, encouraged and supported me as I transitioned to teach a full schedule of computer science classes. I also started helping out with our school's computer programming team. This year, our team is hosting a programming competition for the first time. I enjoy introducing students to coding and it is rewarding when a student registers for more computer science classes. The ultimate reward is learning that a student wants to pursue a career in computer science.
