Kavya is a passionate nonprofit leader, accomplished innovator, experienced public speaker, and junior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. She is the founder and CEO of GirlsComputingLeague (www.girlscomputingleague.com). GirlsComputingLeague is a national youth-driven nonprofit organization working to close the gender gap in technology and computer science. It has been accepted as a partner organization of many companies and organizations, most notably the White House’s CSforAll Initiative. GCL has pledged its support for CS Education and has been listed on the White House Fact Sheet with its goals for 2017: https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2016/12/05/fact-sheet-year-action-supporting-computer-science-all. Kavya is passionate about technology and enjoys sharing her experiences as a high school girl learning more about the world of computer science. She has applied her CS skills to many unique applications, ranging from cybersecurity to healthcare. Kavya has been honored for her technological accomplishments, such as: 1st place at the 2016 International Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge at NASA; 2016 Siemens Competition Semifinalist; 2015 Toshiba Exploravision Challenge Finalist; 3rd place at the 2015 International American Computer Science League All Stars Programming Competition. In the future, Kavya hopes to pursue a career in computer science and be at the cutting edge of its applications in numerous other fields. She hopes to continue to advocate for equal CS representation for all minorities and inspire more young women to enter the field of computer science and technology.
