Gina attends Dos Pueblos High School and is currently in tge Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA). This four year program combines engineering, computer science, physics, machining, and art in an integrated program culminating in a senior capstone project. Gina was inspired to use the skills she learned in the DPEA, along with metalsmithing skills she learned at Interlochen Arts Academy, to found Helping Hands Designs, a nonprofit online jewelry company. Her greatest technical accomplishment so far was the study of the human computer interface. Gina conducted a study looking at the effect on blink rate with the use of four different types of computer devices. Gina further developed the study into a research paper under the mentorship of Osnat Ban-Shahar at UC Santa Barbara. She plans to attend a 4-year university and hopes to study biomedical engineering and design. Gina also enjoys photography, jewelry-making, graphic design, and outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming.
