Divya Aikat, a sophomore at Chapel Hill High School, has been an apprentice and currently is a volunteer intern at Shodor, a national resource for computational education. At Shodor, Divya has completed numerous coding, agent modeling, and teaching projects. She has used Javascript, PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQL, Vensim, AgentCubes, and XML in her projects. Along with working on her own projects, Divya enjoys teaching STEM classes to middle school and high school students. She plans to pursue computer science in college and hopes to incorporate teaching and computing into her future career, hopefully as a computer scientist. Divya is also passionate about encouraging young girls in technology. She has participated in Girls Who Code, learning about women in technology and working on her own projects. Every year, for the last four years, she has volunteered and helped run FEMMES (Females Excelling More in Math Engineering and Science) which is a program held at the University of North Carolina, dedicated to helping young girls become interested in technology and the STEM fields. For her volunteer work at numerous places, she was recently awarded the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award and the Gold Mayor’s Award.
