Allison was first drawn to programming by its clear connection to mathematics. Having first learned HTML through a summer camp, she went on to learn Javascript, CSS, basic PHP, C++, and Flash. She applied her knowledge to create a Flash-based program that promoted the basic subjects in school — math, english, science, and history — a project that qualified her as a finalist in the Invention Convention competition. Through a summer program, Allison visited Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, where she took classes, toured the facility, and shadowed an employee. As an active member of the Girl Scouts, Allison has encouraged younger girls to pursue careers in technology.
