My name is Allison Arth, I am the Director of Computer Science for RePublic Charter Schools. I started with RePublic in 2015 as a 7th and 8th grade Computer Science Teacher. I came in with zero coding experience and had just finished my second year with Teach For America St. Louis. Through a summer summit and weekly conference calls with my coach and fellow coding teachers, I was able to learn the content alongside my scholars. As school years passed, I mastered the material and began to inspire my scholars to seek further education in computer science beyond middle school. I especially focused on pushing my scholars of color and female scholars to pursue this option, as history shows, they are a minority in the field. Through this, I was also inspired to further my career as a female in the field and took on the role of the Computer Science Curriculum Associate and eventually the Director of Computer Science for RePublic Charter Schools. I am now building our K-12 program to offer different opportunities within computer science to all scholars whether it be a degree in Computer Science or career, all scholars can graduate with the necessary skills to pursue computer science.
