Alicia Testa is the Director of STEM and SIFE programs at Stuart. She has been a driving force behind the MakerSpace since its inception and she has been instrumental in the integration of STEM into the curriculum. Alicia has been teaching students to learn how to problem-solve for 20 years through her courses in mathematics, physics, and computer science. She has developed many new courses at Stuart including a course called Design of Emergent Technologies, or DET. Alicia is passionate about girls learning to code, utilizing technology, design thinking, and STEM. She works closely with colleagues at Stuart to help innovate their curriculum with STEM/SIFE through the use of the Makerspace and variety of technology. She is a strong advocate for interdisciplinary learning and team teaching. Alicia encourages students to take risks in their learning and celebrate their failures along the way to gaining real skills and knowledge. Alicia is also the coach of FIRST Tech Challenge team #4936 the SPARKS since the 2014-15 school year, has mentored the GirlsGoCyberStart team since 2019 where they were one of 13 from the state of NJ to make it into the National Competition. She is a founding member of the #LEADLIKAGIRL Conference and has been a member of the conference’s steering committee since 2017.
