Alex is a thirteen year-old, ninth grade student at Oak Ridge High School. Alex is currently taking an AP Computer Science class and a dual-enrollment robotics course, along with all honors classes. She is a four-year alumni of the FIRST Lego League program and currently she is a member of her school FIRST Robotics Competition team and a home, all-girl FIRST Tech Challenge Team. While participating in FIRST Lego League, the team won first place in the state twice and was invited to represent Tennessee at the FIRST World Festival in Houston, Texas and at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. During her rookie season in the FIRST Tech Challenge, the team captained the winning alliance of the South Carolina State Championship. She mentors two Junior FIRST Lego League teams and one FIRST Lego League team. Alex volunteers at numerous off-season Lego Sumo Bot competitions. She participates in community events focused on sharing her love of programming and robotics with young elementary-aged kids. She was a semi-finalist in ProjectCSGirls program in 2016. In addition to all of these wonderful programs, she plays year-round volleyball. Her 13U National volleyball team took 5th place at the 2018 AAU Girl’s National Volleyball Championship in Orlando, FL. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and went to Japan as part of a middle school exchange trip. Because of her love of robotics and programming, she wants to pursue computer science or engineering in college.
