Bio

Abby is a senior at Carmel High School in California. When she was nine years old, she wanted to create a website for a comic strip she created. That daunting task for a fourth grader brought her into the world of computing. Even after growing up learning how to use her parent's desktop computer, she had never known what programming was until then; however, she soon realized that was what she wanted to do as a career. Ever since, she has been very driven towards computer science; she has pushed herself to learn as much as she can about technology. She joined her school's FIRST Robotics team her freshman year and enrolled in AP Computer Science her sophomore year. Last summer, she worked as an intern at the Naval Postgraduate School of Monterey researching the use of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) with autonomous underwater vehicles during NASA's NEEMO 21 mission. Currently, Abby is the captain of her school's robotics team (FRC 2035), helping other teams in the area learn to program, working as a volunteer intern at the Naval Postgraduate School, and taking a 4th semester of AP CS (yikes). She will be attending MIT in the fall planning to study electrical engineering and computer science and hopes to pursue a career involving lots of tinkering and programming.
