Tanvi is a senior at Apex High school. She holds leadership positions in both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. She is also in charge of her school’s TutorConnect service and has enjoyed being part of Science Olympiad. As programming captain’s for her school’s FTC Robotics Team, Tanvi helps teach the younger students how to code in java. This year, she helped her team qualify for states. Tanvi has been interested in the applications of technology since middle school and especially after volunteering at Kramden Institute, a nonprofit that refurbishes computers to give to deserving students without a home computer. This past summer, Tanvi interned at the U.S Environmental Protection Agency branch in RTP. There, she was part of a citizen science project aimed at mitigating the spread of the Zika virus. She did research on Aedes Mosquitos, learned a lot about GIS, coded a form to track mosquito environmental determinants, and developed a mock citizen science website to share this project with other EPA regional offices.
