Bio

Rimika is a well-rounded, inquisitive, and persistent individual who strives to positively impact her immediate community as well as the community at large. In regard to her accomplishments, she led her team to national championship at the Technological Student Association National Conference in the event "Geospatial Technology." She founded TSA in her high school, recruited ten members, and served as the chapter president her first year; she currently serves as the Central District President. She has placed 19 times in TSA competitions on local, state, and national levels. One of Rimika’s most significant leadership activities was founding “Technogirls Exploring Engineering Camp.” She received the funding for this camp through the NCWIT Aspire IT program. Through this $3000.00 grant, she was able to host a coding/robotics camp for underrepresented thirty fourth and fifth grade girls in her local area. She also served as a co-leader for another camp, “Rising Stars,” with a fellow Aspirations winner. Last spring, Rimika represented her school in the C-Spire Coding challenge, a statewide coding rally where she had to program a vehicle in Java to race around simulated tracks in an open source racing game. She and three other team members secured the grand prize of $12,000.00 in scholarship. She worked as a research intern at JSU’s biochemistry department, and conducted NSF funded research to develop a facile synthesis of silver nanoclusters for mercury detection in water. She placed first among all participants for the presentation of her research. Alongside these achievements and activities, Rimika is an active member of show choir, mayor’s youth council, mu alpha theta, National Honor Society, and government club. She is the Distinguished Young Woman of Madison County and a junior ambassador for her city’s chamber of commerce. In her free time, she loves dancing and playing the piano. Rimika plans to attend a four-year university and attain a degree in engineering or computer science. She envisions herself starting a biomedical company that designs innovative and practical solutions to augment the public health of the world-wide community.
