Alina currently is a sophomore at Lubbock High School. During middle school she participated in robotics competitions such as the LEGO based Get Excited About Robotics (GEAR) program and Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) robotics through her Industrial Technology and Introduction to Technology elective classes. In 2013, she led the fundraising effort of her BEST team, which allowed the team to participate in the booth showcase competition for the first time. She also was the leader of the notebook documentation part. That year, the team won best middle school notebook award. Every year, Alina spends three months during the summer, together with her family, in Germany, where she attends a STEM focused high school as a guest student during the last six weeks of the German school year. This summer, she also mentored girls participating in a LEGO robotics summer camp at the University of Applied Sciences in Mannheim, Germany. During her freshman and sophomore years at Lubbock High School, Alina has been concentrating on STEM foundations, taking two math classes in 9th grade (Pre-AP Geometry and Pre-AP Algebra II) and two science classes in 10th grade (AP Physics and Pre-AP Chemistry). She intends to enroll in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program offered at her school during her junior and senior year and to graduate with a STEM endorsement and recognition as a bilingual student. After high school Alina intends to attend college in Germany to study STEM related subjects. She would like to combine her passion for art, media technology, and sciences with her desire to improve society. Having done extensive international travel with her family, she hopes to be well prepared for a multicultural globalized workplace. Alina also is a student athlete competing on the diving team. As a freshman she qualified for the UIL State Championship in Diving. This year, she serves as a captain of the team.
