Somya is a senior at Raleigh Charter High School who wants to encourage more girls to get into STEM. She’s the president of the Girls Who Code club at her school and is involved in organizations pushing for female empowerment in engineering like SWENext. She loves programming and robotics and is a leader on her FIRST Robotics Team. Somya worked as a summer intern at NASA, which she describes as a career-defining experience, and her experience there has led her even deeper into STEM. She has also worked at Cisco, where she learned more about programming and the Internet. Somya will be majoring in computer science in college, which she’s super excited about. In her free time, she does environmental lobbying and is an Alliance for Climate Education Fellow. She also keeps bees in her backyard, tending to which is a fun pastime for her.
