Jewel will be graduating in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, as a high school student, she earned an Associate of Science degree in Physical Science from San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas. To further align her education with her career goals, she will also graduate with a Business Foundations Certificate through the McCombs School of Business and an Elements of Computing Certificate from The University of Texas at Austin Department of Computer Science. Jewel's experiences during her time as a student at The University of Texas at Austin have enabled her to sharpen her analytical, written and verbal communication, and leadership skills. Her project management skills have been developed through various internships in addition to service on a residence hall council, as a peer mentor, as an undergraduate research assistant, and as the President of a student organization. Since all of her leadership positions have heavily required working with people – both peers and superiors – Jewel has developed a great deal of interpersonal skills. On the technical side, Jewel has been proactive in expanding her programming skills through participating in hackathons and other extracurricular activities. She is currently working with a Non-Profit Organization to develop a weekly program to encourage middle and high school minority students to learn how to program and consider careers in computing. Jewel's career goals include bridging the gap between innovative technologies and their target markets on the global platform.
