Rio’s unique mix of a love of art and music and her knowledge of computers has led her to combine these interests in many ways. At first she started by using a program called GarageBand and Final to help record her piano playing and write sheet music. Since then she has been taking more computer classes at school, and was even given the outstanding student award in her QBASIC 2 programming class. She has taken steps outside of her school to expand her knowledge by attending a three week game design class on the Stanford campus and has taken online courses to learn C++. She enjoys using programs such as Photoshop to create and edit her artwork. This fall Erika was selected as one of 44 high school girls to participate in “Take the Lead,” a fully paid women’s leadership conference at Mount Holyoke College.
