Bio

Ashley Hansberry currently serves as the K-12 Department Chair at the Latin School of Chicago, where she teaches a variety of high school computer science courses and coaches a FIRST robotics team. While attending Boston University for undergraduate studies in Computer Science, Ashley became involved in the department's new undergraduate teaching assistant program, which helped launch her teaching career. She then earned her Master's in Education from University of Pennsylvania, where she focused her thesis on using away from computer activities to foster problem solving autonomy in the computer science classroom. In her current role, with the generous support of her department colleagues, Ashley has worked to develop an interdisciplinary, liberal arts computer science curriculum that provides all students K-12 an opportunity to deeply engage with computer science and computational thinking. Recently, she helped write and pass a proposal for a high school graduation requirement in computer science. In her own classes, Ashley is passionate about using collaborative, project-based learning to help all students learn to use computers to solve real problems in their lives.
