Bio

Lanna is a computer science and video game design teacher at the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, CT. Since Fall 2013, she has developed and grown a computer science pathway at her school. To accomplish this, Lanna proposed, designed, and developed curriculum for four courses that had not previously been taught at the school or district: two levels of Video Game Design & Development, AP Computer Science Principles, and an Independent Study Project course for seniors. Lanna has also advised two computer science themed after school programs: a Computing "Maker Space" club and a Girls Who Code club. Lanna developed her educational philosophy as a self-taught adult programmer who arrived at a career in technology after completing bachelor's degrees in Business Management and Music Performance. She often wonders how her life might have taken a different path if there had been a teacher who encouraged her to pursue her interests in technology sooner. She uses that experience as motivation to reach out to young women in her school so they have an early opportunity to consider careers in computers and technology. Lanna is extremely proud to be honored with a NCIWIT Educator Award and loves that she is among the ranks of so many other teachers, administrators, community members, and students who are all working hard to increase access to technology education for women everywhere.
