Malia is a current senior at Mira Costa High School, with demonstrated interest in STEM. In the future, she hopes to attend college and plans to study biomedical engineering. To date, she has furthered her interest while in high school by taking a three-year Biotechnology course involving an application selection of about eighteen students. She has gained experience in advanced laboratory techniques involving complex technology, for example a PCR analysis thermal cycler. In addition, she is taking an AP Computer Science course to further her knowledge and skills in coding, as well as creation. At a local TEDX conference, she debuted an Operation Game Makey Makey project that combined her developing coding skills with her interest in medicine. Malia has high ambitions for involvement in the biomedical engineering field that encompasses all of her interests in biology, medicine, and creation of new technology to better help the world.
