Alana is a high school senior in Great Mills High School's STEM program very interested by the intersection between computer science and art. Throughout high school, she has been an active member of her school’s Computer and Cyber Club, where she has competed in CyberPatriot (where her team was a gold tier semifinalist in 2018 and platinum tier in 2019) and several Capture the Flag competitions. This year, Alana co-founded her school’s Girls Who Code chapter aimed at supporting women interested in pursuing computer science. She is currently a co-president and helps guide the club in programming activities. This year, their Girls Who Code chapter is planning an outreach trip to introduce middle school students to topics in computer science. Alana has developed her programming skills using C, Java, HTML, CSS, and AngularJS. She is also very experienced with CAD software, particularly SOLIDWORKS, and she is a certified SOLIDWORKS associate. In her free time, she also enjoys creating digital art and programming games. She plans to attend college starting in fall 2019 to double major in computer science and studio art or to have an interdisciplinary major, like computer graphics. Alana one day hopes to become a software engineer specializing in the development of computer graphics and simulation software.
