Katherine lives in Orange County, California, where she was named one of its Top 100 Most Influential People in 2018. Long active in the tech for good space, Katherine is a Points of Light Foundation Daily Point of Light, a Prudential Spirit of Community Distinguished Finalist, a Disneyland Luminary, a Go Campaign Local Hero, a Presidential Volunteer Service Award Gold Medalist, a Congressional Award Silver Medalist, a California State Assembly Award winner, and a Rotary Youth Community Service Scholarship winner. Katherine is the co-founder and co-director of Open Sesame Coding for Kids, an organization of more than one hundred college and high school volunteers who teach coding to children at 9 different homeless and domestic violence shelters located in 6 cities. In 2017, she was named “Miss Mathematician,” the top accolade at CSU Fullerton’s Math Intensive Summer Session. In 2016, she won second place in a regional semester-long mobile app development competition sponsored by Time Warner Cable. Katherine is a now a member of her high school’s award-winning Space Settlement team, as well as a board member for Girls Who Code. Katherine serves as drum major for her school’s 150-member marching band. She represents her school on the city-wide Youth Action Team. Last year, she was selected to attend the Hugh O’Brian California State Youth Leadership Seminar and Young America’s Foundation Ronald Reagan Ranch High School Conference. An accomplished musician, Katherine plays trumpet in her school’s top ensemble and at funerals for veterans. She is an award-winning competitive pianist. Last year she completed the highest level of the Music Teacher Association of California’s challenging Certificate of Merit program. Katherine sings alto with the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras and will be performing at Carnegie Hall in July. Katherine is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
