Bio

Born, raised and educated in the Philippines, I came into the United States 10 years ago to pursue post gradute education in Science and Engineering. On my journey I found myself in the high school classroom teaching Math and eventually Computer Science. It was struggle at first primarily due to cultural differences, but I came to learn and find way way into the hearts of my students and soon won almost of their respect up to now. After 4 years of adjusting I was able to finally go to graduate school and finished my Masters in Education in Educational Technology Leadership. In that program I realized that technology is my passion so I took a Database Administration Course at a local Community College to reinforce my technical knowledge. Shortly after that, I decided to shift from teaching Math to Computer Science. I started our school's robotics teams first as an after school activity inclusive to both males and females, then the following year I advocated for it to be a full-year class, which is now on it's third year of offering - Robotics Programming and Design. Since the first the day of conceptions we always have and encouraged female pariticipation. This year with the help of one of my student and another interested female faculty we put up a local chapter of Girls Who Code in our school and is now in the process of creating an all girls robotics team. With roughly 3 years of being involved in Computer Science, I believe that there is long way to go to increase female participations in the field, but, I hope that the steps we are taking are on the right track.
