Alex is a fourteen year-old, tenth grade student at Oak Ridge High School. Alex is currently taking an AP Computer Science class along with all honors and AP classes. Last year she took another AP Computer Science course and a dual-enrollment robotics course. She is a five-year alumni of the FIRST Lego League program, two year alumni of the FIRST Tech Challenge program, and currently she is a member of her school FIRST Robotics Competition team. While participating in FIRST Lego League, the team won first place in the state twice and was invited to represent Tennessee at the FIRST World Festival in Houston, Texas and at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. During her rookie season in the FIRST Tech Challenge, the team captained the winning alliance at the South Carolina State Championship. During second season they were on the winning alliance at the Alabama State Championship and the captains of the 4th seed alliance at the Tennessee State Championship where they won the Think award. She mentors one Junior FIRST Lego League team and two FIRST Lego League teams. Alex volunteers at numerous off-season Lego Sumo Bot and FIRST Lego League competitions. She participates in community events focused on sharing her love of programming and robotics with young elementary-aged kids. She was a semi-finalist in ProjectCSGirls program in 2016. In addition to all of these wonderful programs, she plays year-round volleyball. Her 13U National volleyball team took 5th place at the 2018 AAU Girl’s National Volleyball Championship in Orlando, FL. This year she played for her school varsity volleyball team and received an honorable mention on the all-district team. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and has been to Japan and the Bahamas. Because of her love of robotics and programming, she wants to pursue computer science or engineering in college.
