Kristian Reed is a proud member of the National Society of Black Engineers, where she is her junior chapter secretary and apart of the National Honor Society. She participates as the Business Coordinator for the Flawless Female Engineers for Ten80 Racing Competition. Outside of school extracurricular activities, Kristian is the vice president for her church youth group where she helps organize and manage service projects, fundraisers, and other activities to engage youth within the Houston community. Her favorite memories from STEM high school classes are the robotics competitions where she was responsible for the notebook of the robot. She was able to collect the positive and negative impact on the robot when the team used different designs. The team was able to identify and modify the robot based on the errors and complications that were stated in the engineering notebook. Her favorite STEM field trip was the computer science showcase at Rice University with other HISD schools which included coding of apps, presentation of a science project, and coding to robots to function throughout the provided course. The advice she has for future students is to not be afraid to try new classes and courses that will challenge your intelligence and knowledge about society. You are able to become exposed to various fields and careers within industries which can impact society/ today’s living. Kristian plans to attend Spelman College and major in engineering.
