Gabrielle has been studying computer science for the past three years, with a focus on Java for the last two. Gabrielle was also recognized for her achievements throughout the year by the computer science department at her school and received an award for excellence in computer science. It was the only award given by the department that year. During the past summer, Gabrielle attended Engineering Summer Academy at Penn where she studied biotechnology and co-wrote a research proposal focusing on the future study of breast cancer cell migration via contact guidance. She worked under the direction of distinguished UPenn faculty members. Gabrielle is also a nationally ranked swimmer and has travelled across the country to compete in swim meets. In her sophomore year, she also represented her high school at New York state championships. As a junior, she was selected by her peers to be the captain of her varsity high school swim team. In her free time, Gabrielle works as a lifeguard and teaches swim lessons. She founded her local branch of Girls Who Code, where she teaches and passes on her passion for computer science to middle school girls. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family. In the future, Gabrielle hopes to attend college and study computer science and engineering.
