Web Content Specialist/Consultant Search

The National Academy of Engineering is looking for a talented web content specialist to generate and post engaging and original content for the EngineerGirl website. The content specialist would serve as an individual consultant/contractor for the NAE working roughly 8 hours per week. Specialist will research topics and develop interesting posts, web pages, and resource collections that will appeal to our target audience of middle school girls. The specialist may also be called on to create materials to promote the website and programs using social media, direct email, and other methods to alert and expand our visitorship. A content specialist for EngineerGirl must be a skilled, tech-savvy writer who can create appealing, insightful posts about engineering that will engage and inspire girls, their educators, and caregivers.


Tasks required of a content specialist in the coming year include the following: • Implementing regular updates on the site landing pages and features; • Managing website content for the program’s Annual Writing Contest including preparing the contest prompt, creating associated reference pages, and creating pages to highlight the winners; • Creating and posting new pages for the Ambassadors Program including new profiles, blog pieces, resources submitted by participating youth, and application materials; • Converting prior Fun Facts to an easy-to-manage Did You Know section; • Updating and adding resources to important sections of the site including the Engineering Careers, Historical Engineers, and Women in STEM pages; • Developing new sections and articles related to topics such as pandemics and engineering for public health, engineering in the news, social justice, climate change, and building social capital; • Preparing social media posts to promote relevant resources and engage new audiences; • Editing or creating multimedia content such as videos, photos, or audio recordings as needed. • Advising NAE staff on helpful updates to improve overall web design and usability


Helpful skills: Familiarity with engineering and technical STEM fields; Exceptional writing, research, and communication skills; Creativity and adaptability; Understanding of the target audience and industry trends; Proficiency with computers, especially content management software, social media platforms, MS Office, and SEO keywords; and a basic understanding of HTML
