21st Annual YMCA Thingamajig® Invention Convention
YMCA of Metropolitan Washington’s is hosting the 21st Annual YMCA Thingamajig® Invention Convention on Thursday, July 23, 2015, from 9a.m. until 3p.m. at the Prince George’s County Show Place Arena/Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Last year’s event attracted over 3,800 children, ages 5-14 from the metropolitan Washington region.
Thingamajig® has grown tremendously since its inception because of the Y’s commitment to this day-long event that combines STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), PHD™ (physical, healthy and driven) active fitness and play, creative eco-art, children’s gardening, team challenges and the performing arts into one children focused festival. This year, we are anticipating a crowd of 4,000 eager, excited children that will converge onto the floor of the Show Place Arena to experience more fun and engaged learning.
Thingamajig® would not be possible without the support and assistance of committed, caring individuals and businesses. We are constantly looking for new partners to help motivate young people to “think outside of the box” and explore science, technology, engineering and math in a manner that is highly engaging and contagious. That’s what Thingamajig® is all about. Thingamajig is a FREE full day of fun, excitement, hands-on science, technology, invention, physical challenges and a whole lot more – some even describe it as a “learning carnival”. Children have an opportunity to compete for prizes in the THINGAMAJIG® Invention Challenges. They can take part in the Thingamajig® Presidential Team Challenge, an onsite event that tasks teams of young people to create and compete in an on the spot invention challenge. There is a huge physical fitness playground and obstacle course; a healthy Children’s Organic Garden; a Junkyard Fashion Show, a talent show and many more activities planned to keep children engaged in a full day of fun.
Please spread the word about Thingamajig and help recruit individuals and organizations that may be able to participate. If you need additional information or have questions, please contact Emma Lipscomb via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 202-380-7632.
