Aspirations in Computing Award Recipients

Hathaway Brown School
Lauren, a junior at Hathaway Brown School, has had an interest in Computer Science, Technology, and Engineering since freshman year of high school when she joined the schools's FIRST Robotics Competition team, 2399. After programming on the team her freshman year, Lauren went on to take Intro to Computer Science her sophomore year and is currently taking A.P. Computer Science. Next year she will take Post A.P. Computer Science, an independent study course at her school. Lauren is currently the Programming captain on her robotic's team and spends lots of time working with code for Robots, especially vision code. Lauren is planning on working on a team collaboration for open sourcing FIRST code, a project called Summer of FIRST, this summer as well as continuing to work on off season Robotics projects for next year. Hathaway Brown School
Lauren Egts enjoys speaking about technology. She educates children and adults about computer programming by presenting on Scratch and the Rasberry Pi at the Akron Linux User Group and the Cleveland and Akron Mini-Maker Faires. In addition, she has had training on Python at PyOhio and HTML at the Cleveland LaunchHouse. She is interested in building an expertise in those languages and additional public speaking. At school, she is enrolled in Hathaway Brown's Science, Research, and Engineering program and computer science class. In her spare time, she also enjoys robotics competitions, legos, and science fiction. She is honored to have recieved a 2014 Ohio Affiliate Award from NCWIT. Last summer, she interned at Case Western University's Think[box].
